The history of the chateau

goes back a long way but Albert Christophle implemented the biggest changes after he bought the place in 1868 as a hunting lodge. He was the Minister of Public Works in France and the creator of the town of Bagnoles as we know it today. He was also the mayor and initiator of the very well-preserved Belle Époque neighbourhood of the town.

The history of the chateau

In 2017, we were fortunate enough to buy the château and have worked purposefully to renovate it with respect for the history and the original details to bring it back to its former greatness. In August 2020, we moved permanently to France to pursue our common dream and create a unique home where we look forward to welcoming you as our guests.

Bagnoles is a very famous spa town in France. As far back as the Middle Ages, there are tales of the healing hot springs in the town and today there is a large spa that attracts guests from all over Europe.

We offer 3 spacious guest rooms, 2 suites and 1 gîte, to give you a unique experience to stay at the Chateau du Gue Aux Biches and feel the buzz of history, where famous writers such as Paul Feval and Alexander Dumas have been guests. The place exudes the grandeur of the past while being cozy and can create the perfect setting for your stay.

We would like to welcome you into our home where relaxation is paramount and where you as a guest have the experience of staying at a chateau. You will be close to the area's many opportunities, experiences, restaurants, casino, golf course and spa. We make bicycles available for our guests to visit the town of Bagnoles or to explore the area around the chateau.

How to get to Chateau du Gue Aux Biches:

By car: Enter “Chateau du Gue Aux Biches, Bagnoles de l`Orne” into the GPS and you will be directed straight to us. It is easy to get here as we are only 25 km from a motorway.

By plane you have a choice of airports depending on where you are coming from and then hire a car. From Charles de Gaulle in Paris you can take the TGV to Le Mans (120km from the chateau) or Laval (60km from the chateau) and then rent a car from there.

By train: From Gare Montparnasse in central Paris take the Normandy train towards Granville to Argentan or Briouze where there from the station is a bus directly to Bagnoles de l`Orne.

Albert Christophle

Born of François-Alexandre Christophle, lawyer, mayor of Domfront (Orne), and of Françoise Legendre, Albert Christophle was received in 1852, doctor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Caen, after four years at the bar of the same city.

The Story off Klaus and Soren

A shared dream of another life, Klaus Bentin and Soren Rasmussen left Denmark for Bagnoles de l'Orne and the Château du Gué aux Biches in 2020 . A chateau of 1,200 m2 on five floors, located on a hill just outside the town of Bagnole de l’Orne with a park of 13 hectares, wonderful views and close to the Andaines forest.

We have been visited by a Danish TV crew...

...who are creating an exciting documentary about Normandy. The program is called "Anne and Anders in Europe: Neighbor Strife in Northern France" and is broadcasted on DR1.
